Beacon Street Music is the brainchild of soprano Teresa Eickel (please call her Terri – all of her friends do) who noticed that access to live classical vocal music was really negatively impacted by the recession. Everywhere she looked, it seemed, regional opera companies and concert series were shuttering their doors.
Now. There are just a few things you need to know about Terri Eickel.
- She loves opera and music theatre more than anything and is really, REALLY good at getting other people to love it, too.
- She used to run to a Broadway playlist, but discovered it was really hard to grapevine on the treadmill, so she switched over to dance music.
- If you put the words “Pumpkin Spice” in the title, she will want to eat whatever it is. Fact.
When she’s not trying to figure out different ways to add Pumpkin Spice to things, Terri spends her time thinking about the arts. The idea that people were not going to get to experience this amazing music LIVE, the way it was meant to be experienced, made her sad. And mad. Music should be for everybody. So she decided to put together her own high-quality concerts with fantastic musicians and Beacon Street Music was born.
At the moment, Beacon Street Music offers two concerts. The first is All the Good Stuff, a opera/Broadway revue that features hit after hit from both genres. The singers give background about the opera selections, and the whole show is punctuated with funny stories and personal anecdotes.
The second show is Bury My Heart, an art song and poetry performance that tells the story about a soldier, his life and death, and his love for family and country. The story is powerful and highlights some of the greatest art song and poetry ever written.
Both concerts have been enormous hits and have had the exact effect that Terri was looking for – people who loved classical music were thrilled to have great performances in their area, and people who had never experienced it before were blown away by how much they enjoyed it. Terri was not surprised, though. She has always believed that people automatically respond to awesome music that is sung well.
Oh, and one more thing – all of the artists involved in Beacon Street Music are available for any other gigs – please contact them directly.
